About Me
Okay, I can't hide it anymore - I'm letting the cat out of the bag:

I paint. I admit it.

When I was a little girl I wanted to be a painter, but instead - 30 years ago - I chose the one career in the world that does not allow for any artistic creativity: I became a Paintings Conservator with a six-year degree from Germany and a conservation studio in Victoria, BC, Canada.
In my chosen field, it is very much frowned upon to have any artistic tendencies because everything we do depends solely on scientific analysis and methodology - we are not artists- we are scientists.
Over the past 30 years I've seen thousands of paintings on my easel, many from famous artists, but none were my own -
I hadn't painted since high school.

When I went through a big cancer scare in 2019 I re-evaluated how I was spending my time and realized that I needed to make space for some creativity after all. I already had the paint and the brushes from my work - I also had the technical understanding of the materials but that does not make one a good painter, which is what I'm hoping to be someday.
Until then, I'll continue to paint what I like, which is urban landscapes in my chosen home of Victoria on Vancouver Island.

What drives me to paint urban landscapes? I love heritage buildings and other manmade landmarks that have been around for a long time.
Many of these are at risk of being altered or lost completely. The amount of bulldozing that is currently done in Greater Victoria is incredible. The city is changing at lightning fast speed. I'm trying to document some of the places that hold meaning and beauty to me before they are gone forever.
